There are many gyms and many trainers out there that are ready to do the job...
so WHY JACKIE'S GYM?
The answer is simple.
Anyone can run the treadmill, spin the bike, pull/push the weights…however these are just small parts of the big picture. Individuals vary from each other with their genetic make up, with their strengths, weaknesses and their limitations.
At JACKIE'S GYM, we are all about recognizing the differences in the individual, studying the Human Kinetics and its Bio Mechanics. We have been training for over 30 years and we put this knowledge to work. We developed a program that is SAFE, not only for today but also for years to come. The approach of what does not kill you makes you stronger, doesn't work in Jackie's Gym because sometimes what does not kill you breaks you. WE RAISE THE BAR GRADUALLY, CONSISTENTLY BASED ON SAFE AND SOUND SCIENTIFIC TRAINING PRINCIPLES.
We armed our clients with information that helps them make an on-going progressive change in their lifestyle. We are not looking for any short cuts or temporary change. At any given time we have three generations of one family training at Jackie's Gym, which is a proven success of our longevity training philosophy.
About Jackie Banayan
At the age of 12, Jackie started boxing in the Golden Gloves program and soon became the Champion of the Lightweight Class. The next 6 years, Jackie spent competing for the National Israeli Boxing Team until, at age 18, he started his mandatory three year service with the Israeli Army. While in the army, Jackie was able to put the skills and knowledge of his past fitness training to good use as the Fitness Trainer for the troops. Every day, from early morning to late at night, he would motivate the men through a rigorous and demanding program. During this time, Jackie's passion and commitment to a career in fitness training became clear.
Jackie then attended Wingate College and studied Exercise Physiology and specialized in Clinical Posture with expanded knowledge in Human Kinetics and Bid Mechanics. Four years later, after completing his undergrad, he went to work for the Hyatt Hotel and was hired as their Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer and soon launched his own personal training business in 1987. After two years in business Jackie's thirst for knowledge and his "you can never know enough" attitude brought him to the United States where he began working on his Masters Degree. He attended the University of Akron and studied Exercise Physiology, specializing in Cardiac Rehabilitation and then completed an internship at Summa Akron City Hospital in the Cardiac Rehab Department.
In 1991, Jackie became the Fitness Director at the Akron Jewish Community Center and developed a series of Personal Training Programs for their members. After an inspirational one on one meeting with spinning creator and phenomenon, Johnny G, Jackie brought the area's first "Spinning Studio" to Akron, OH.
In early 2001, Jackie opened his private studio, Jacob's Superior Kinetics. The success of this private gym is based on the education and experience that Jackie has harvested over 30 years and his commitment to empower his clients with the knowledge that ensures success.
Jackie is an active member of the community and generously donates his skill and expertise to the Stephen A. Comunale, Jr. Family Cancer Foundation each year at their "Spin for Life" fundraiser. He enthusiastically leads a group of over 300 riders throughout the day and has helped to raise over $100,000 at each event. He lives in the Akron, Ohio area with his wife and two children.

It is my first spinning classes, any good advice for me?
Yes!
Wearing padded cycling shorts or using a gel seat cover will definitely make your ride more comfortable. Cycling shoes are made with a very stiff sole that enables more powerful pedal strokes. Cycling shoes can also be used with clipless pedals, which facilitate a push/pull action and more efficient pedal strokes. At JACKIE'S GYM we use SPD compatible clips as well as cages for those who do not have cycling shoes.
A HEART RATE MONITOR – IT IS A MUST
You must have a heart rate monitor to participate. You may bring your own or rent one from Jackie's Gym.
The Spinning program consists of five Energy Zones. These Energy Zones vary in intensity and are based upon certain percentages of your maximum heart rate. By wearing a heart rate monitor, you will be better equipped to assess the intensity of your ride and determine when to push harder, maintain your pace or reduce your effort. By taking the guesswork out of your workout you maximize your efficiency while minimizing your odds of overtraining, injury and burnout.
SIGN UP FOR A FREE INTRO SPIN SESSION.
Every Sunday we have a 20 minute introduction to spinning for beginners. The class time changes from one Sunday to the other. Please email us for the time of the beginner intro class. Attending this class will increase your comfort level, and will turn it to a rewarding first session.
Comfortable workout clothes, moisture-wicking tops will keep you cool and dry even when you're hot and sweaty.
Having a water bottle on hand will help keep you hydrated and performing your best; we will provide you with water. Our reverse osmosis water system, connected to a water cooler, provides hot and cold water. Please bring a refillable sport water bottle, and help us to stay green.
What kind of clips do your bikes accept?
We offer the most sought after indoor cycling bike in the industry. Each bike has SPD compatible clips as well as cages for those who do not have cycling shoes (a cross trainer tennis shoe is recommended). Our bikes also include computer monitors that gauge your RPM's, calories burned, distance and heart rate (Polar compatible).
We provide free towels.
We also have changing rooms, showers/restrooms and cubbies for your convenience.

testimonials
Jackie's spinning classes are the best spinning classes I have ever been in. He knows every participant's ability and pushes each of us to give our all – every class.
— James S. Simon, Esq.
I recently told a friend of mine that I had been working out with Jackie since 1993 and he said "all that time and this is what you look like?" I said yea can you imagine what I would look like if I hadn't been working out!
— Thomas R. Luck
I have been working with Jackie for fourteen years now! After two knee replacements and one hip replacement, a torn biceps tendon and an ankle with nine pieces of metal, he has kept me moving, able to travel and functioning as if I didn't have all my problems. He monitors what I do while pushing me to do as much as possible, always watching out to make sure I don't injure any part of my body while doing something with every muscle group.
— Dianne R. Newman, Attorney
I met Jackie in the early 90s when he was a new legal immigrant and enrolled with his private training programs few yes after that . And here I am to date still being trained by Jacob the only trainer in town,
twice a week and a very early morning spinning classes where I camp outside his gym at 4am waiting for the door to open at 5.30am. The man is an educated, dedicated professional in his field, focused in helping you reaching your fitness goals and keeping them. As a bonus, he has enrolled many peoples who have become friends with each other .
I will not look for another trainer. This is it.....!
— Mush
I have been training with Jackie for at least ten years. He has the ability to analyze your body and customize your workout just for you. He is not only my trainer, but also a great friend. When I walk in the door tired and not in the mood, by the time I leave I am rejuvenated. We work hard, but also have fun and laugh. I love my hour training with him every week. The best testimonial is that I see the results of my training.
Thank You Jackie
— Jodi Morris

I have been working out with Jackie for almost a decade. He is truly THE rock star of any trainer out there! Not only is he a consummate professional , he is an amazing motivator. He has an abundance of knowledge in all respects to physical health. Jackie genuinely cares about every single client that walks thru his doors. His devotion and love of what he does, and how he does it is ten-fold.
— Abigail Bucker
I have worked with Jackie for 20 years! He is a master at his trade. I am stronger and healthier then ever, never have felt better. I have had several health issues over the 20 years and he has never let me quit. If I was MIA I received phone calls. Jackie is one of a kind. He is professional and kind and has only your best interests at heart. He is your exercise physiologist , your coach, and more importantly is your biggest cheerleader! Thanks Jackie for all you do! Akron is so lucky to have you. I look forward to our next 20 year Journey!
Congrats.
— Carmie
Originally I came to Jackie for chronic neck pain. After 2 months of back strengthening exercises (and others) it was gone and never came back. That was enough to convince me, and I've never stopped. But interestingly, with four years under my belt, I'm still relatively new to the scene. Jackie has clients who have been coming for years, 15 years and more!
