Spinning Classes at Jackie’s Gym

The Spinning Studio at Jackie's Gym is Akron's first state of art indoor cycling studio dedicated exclusively to indoor cycling. Our model is unique - NO MEMBERSHIP FEES and NO CONTRACTS. Pay per class or purchase packages...our easy online technology allows you to book classes and check your account 24 hours a day.

Although our brand new studio has the capacity for 30 bikes, we limit our class to 17 students. This provides personal space and allows the instructor to give special attention to each student. Each bike is equipped with a spinning computer, providing up to the minute information that will help the student pace and evaluate performance. Classes encourage beginners to take the challenge and advanced athletes to break new limits.

Although our instructors will encourage every student to give it their all, the intensity of the workout depends on how much you, the rider, puts into it. You can take it as easy or push as hard as you like.
Our instructors are consistent and accountable regarding the quality of each session. We are aware of the mental challenge it takes to push and change the body on a regular base. Jackie's Gym makes it simple...you show up - we challenge you to be your best every class.

Your safety comes first. Please let your instructor know of any specific health or fitness issues you may have before the ride begins. If you have any existing medical conditions that concern you, check with your physician before starting any new fitness activity.

Spin Policies

Spin Etiquette

1. Show up early: be prepared and have your bike set. If you are a first time rider, attend the introduction class and sign the consent form. We will help you get your bike set before class. All of our classes start and end on time. Please respects other people’s time…so please don’t show up late. If you must be late (and we hope you aren’t), please take a bike in the back of the room without distracting the rhythm of the class.

2. Text & Chatting: The use of cell phones is prohibited during class. Most people should be able to survive without their phone for a spinning class.

3. Cross Talk: Talking during class is a major distraction for your spin neighbor. Please refrain from chatting during class.

4. Laundry: We ride close together so we can feel each other's energy. That being said your neighbor does not want to pass out from your odor. Plan to sweat and please wear deodorant. And, after your ride, please wipe up the mess.

5. Kindness: Just like our LED lights, kindness is cool. Respect the rider on your left and right.

6. Please leave street shoes outside room (in the lobby area).

7. Please be sure to sign in when you arrive at the studio.

8.  You must have a heart rate monitor to participate, maximize your efficiency while minimizing your odds of overtraining, injury. You may bring your own or rent one from Jackie's Gym.

9. Your spinning package-account cannot be shared with others. No spinning credit can be transferred to other accounts.

My First Ride

Spinning is a multi-level workout. The unique thing about spinning is that it is a simple activity. Everyone knows the basic movement from childhood. What brings the level up is the framework that makes the workout easy or intense. Every student has his/her own heart monitor and computer to follow the individual workout. Pace yourself to survive your first workout and learn what your body can do.

At your first spin at Jackie's gym, please let your instructor know. He or she can help you adjust your spin bike and familiarize you with its features.
Adjust the seat height so that your knees are slightly bent at the bottom of the pedal stroke.
Adjust fore/aft seat position so that your arms are a comfortable distance from the handlebars and your elbows are slightly bent.

If you're a beginner, start with the handlebars in a relatively high position. As your flexibility increases and you become more comfortable on the bike you can begin to move the handlebars downward until they are approximately level with the saddle. Always make sure that the handlebars, seat post and seat slider are securely attached and that all pop pins are completely engaged.

During Class
Place the ball of your foot over the center of the pedal. Make sure that your shoelaces are tucked in and your feet are securely attached to the pedals.

Note that because Spinner® bikes have a fixed gear, you must gradually reduce the speed of your pedal strokes to stop the pedals from moving. To decrease the speed of your pedaling, press down on the red resistance knob to stop the pedals.

Remember there is no competition in the Spinning program. Go at the pace that feels right for you. There should always be some resistance on the bike. Familiarize yourself with all movements at a moderate pace before you attempt to increase your speed.
Stay in control. Focus on your form and on making smooth transitions between movements.

A heart rate monitor is an unmatched tool for helping you make the most of each workout. Your instructor will guide you throughout the session using the heart monitor as a guide.

If you begin to feel faint or dizzy, slowly stop pedaling, carefully dismount from the bike and inform your instructor immediately.

Every Sunday we have a 20-minute "Introduction to Spinning" for beginners. Please email us for the time of the beginner intro class. Remember: anyone at any level can spin! Classes are small and we give personal attention to every rider.

If you have any health concerns or limitations, please email us prior to class.
